Nice to meet you. I'm Will Irace, aspiring dork. I will be at the next PDX meeting which is held on a day that finds me in town.
Notable events in my dork timeline:
- 1972: Age one. Receive a birthday card covered with knobs and buttons. The die is cast.
- 1980: first computer. Atari 400. Most memorable project: an unbelievably crude audio digitizer interfaced through the joystick port.
1996: Website/blog launched.
2002: First MAME box half-built, then abandoned.
2005: Brief dabbling with George Rhoads-style rolling ball sculpture, unfinished. (Cleanse your palette here.)
2005: First pinball reconditioning project completed. Pinball delights me because of the connection it illustrates between hardware and software (at least in the post-electromechanical age).
2006: Second mame box completed. This one came out very nicely.
2007: Embark on a blinkenlights project, a microcontroller driving a bunch of LEDs which blink in interesting and unpredictable ways, simulating a 70's "computer" in TV and film. photos. Short videos: 1, 2.
2007: Discover Hypnocube and realize that I am a complete loser.
2007: Discover dorkbotpdx. Arduino seems nifty. Maybe Jason can be convinced to show me the easy route to homebrew PCB's if I resume the blinkenlights project.
